When I started making fragrance, one of the first things that surprised me was what’s actually allowed to go into a bottle labelled “perfume”. A lot of mainstream fragrances rely on synthetic fixatives and undisclosed “fragrance” blends that can include phthalates and other hormone-disrupting chemicals – ingredients that have been linked to headaches, skin irritation and longer-term hormonal effects for some people.
That’s not something I wanted to put on my skin every day, and I didn’t think our customers should have to either.
So every Saide perfume is formulated without phthalates, parabens or sulphates – vegan, cruelty free, and handpoured here in Brisbane in small batches. It’s a slower, more careful way to make fragrance, but it’s the only way I’ve wanted to do it.
